What is a doula?

Doulas provide educational, emotional, and physical support before, during, and after childbirth.  Doulas complete the triangle of teamwork between the laboring woman,  her partner, and herself.  Doulas have professional relationships with providers and staff to allow for a smooth transition from one stage of labor to the next.

Evidence has shown that the presence of a Doula lowers c-section rates, the need for pain medication, and promotes shorter labors.

BIRTH MATTERS

While her child's birth may be a day in the life of a woman, it will impact her for the rest of her life.  Birth is fluid, it changes directions, it is powerful.  It is important to create a birth team that will support, understand, and guide her through it.  Doulas do that.

My experience in the home birth setting, birth centers, and hospitals provides the calm, normal presence needed to keep things moving and reassure the laboring woman and her partner.
